Having previously walked the Long Mynd in summer and the middle of winter, we headed down this time in Autumn. This route we chose to take in Pole Bank (as we completely missed it in the snow!) and decided that we could take in some other sections of the Long Mynd which we had not explored before.
Starting at the National Trust car park, we headed on up the popular path and due to the beautiful weather, we just wanted to get as high as possible as quick as possible to ensure we made the most of the views. Along the way we saw several wild horses, who although not wanting us to get too close, allowed us close enough to get a great view.
This route is relatively steep at a few points, but nothing that frequent walkers should be concerned about. The path isn't too long either and quite soon you are up high with fantastic surrounding views of the countryside. Due to the plateau, the views are outstanding and rightly draw your attention in every direction.
Once at the top, we took the main path to the right, and from here it’s very easy going and flat, the views continue out for some way and it’s not surprising to see quite a few people and even horses up here. Eventually, coming to a road we veered off to the right and down a small hill, completing a U turn at the bottom to swing the walk around towards Haddon Hill.
This uncompromising mound stands above the surrounding area, and there are options to take this is as part of a bigger circular, we just decided to go up, have some lunch and head back the way we came.
Upon coming back down, we headed left back to the main path and over the crossroads which we first came up. Again, as before this is very flat and easy going. The views either side are beautiful and the slow rise towards Pole bank is very subtle and easy to follow. The paths are well trodden, and the gravel surface is easy enough to walk on.
Upon Reaching Pole Bank, he highest point of the Long Mynd, as you can expect the views are better than ever. You can see stunning views in every direction, some broken by other hills, some leading out over flatland for miles.
Upon reaching Pole Bank, we turned around and headed back the way we came, navigation was easy and once back towards the crossroads, headed back down to the main carpark. After a bit of walking, this steepness feels harder than it is, but you are soon down to leveller grounds to finish the walk in the beautiful valley.
